A Story of Survival
 | |
This is the story of Ruby's Last Native. Her mother, Cody Sprat, nicknamed "Ruby", was a barrel horse that Merrill competed on until Ruby chipped her knee and became a broodmare. Ruby was by Docs Jack Sprat by Doc Bar and was a finished cutting horse when Merrill got her. She had 8 foals, but she ruptured an intestine while having Rubys Last Native aka "Baby Girl". Ruby died 12 hours after giving birth and Merrill was left with her orphan foal.
However, this tragic story has slowly progressed into a happy one which is told through the pictures below. The story begins with April the Goat who was an immediate help with her goats milk, and then two mares who had foals of their own reluctantly allowed "Baby Girl" to nurse. Then there is Cajun Choice, a crippled mare who had weaned her own foal and kindly adopted this orphan and accepted her as her own! |

This is it for now. Her story will continue on though, and her dad, Reds Western Native, will be proud of her one day. She is a tough filly though and has already had hernia surgery and was weaned on her own. She is monitored like a child by Merrill though, and thinks she is a little human.
Good Night and Good Luck! |
